What is BMX Racing?
Bicycle Motor Cross (BMX) racing is a type of off-road bicycle racing. The format of BMX was derived from motocross racing. BMX bicycle races are sprint races on purpose-built off-road single-lap race tracks. The track usually consists of a starting gate for up to eight racers, a groomed, serpentine, dirt race course made of various jumps and rollers and a finish line. The course is usually flat, about 4.6m wide and has large banked corners called berms that help the riders maintain speed. The sport of BMX racing is facilitated by a number of regional and international sanctioning bodies. They provide rules for sanctioning the conduct of the specify age group and skill-level classifications among the racers, and maintain points-accumulation system over the racing season. The sport is very family oriented and largely participant-driven, with riders ranging in age from 2 to 70, and over. More information on BMX racing can be found at www.bmxracinguk.com
Hungry? - Then visit 'The Hut'
Once you've done a few laps of the track (or watched your loved ones do it), no doubt the hunger pangs will start. Firstly, DON'T PANIC!!! Cathy and her team in the hut will be able to supply you with a wide range of hot and cold drinks, sweets as well as hot food all at very reasonable prices. All proceeds go back into the running of the club.
Safety
Parents should be aware that BMX is an extreme sport and accidents can happen.
We ask that parents of children 12 years old and under should be in attendance whilst their children ride the track. Thank you.
All riders are required to wear full face helmets, have their arms and legs fully covered (no skin showing) and wear gloves.
